Arts, Media, and Communication Partnership of the Year goes to the Parthenon
On May 12, 2014, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual Academy Awards. Teachers, principals, business partners, and community interest groups came together to celebrate the achievements of the 2013-2014 school year and recognize those schools that have made outstanding gains. The Parthenon's artist-in-residence program offers an inspiring learning experience for select advanced academy art students. Based on the centuries-old tradition of museums serving as vibrant schools of art, students enjoy regular and repeated access to the classical Elgin Marble casts, as well as other Parthenon architectural elements. Students have an opportunity to broaden their own aesthetic conceptual repertoire and strengthen their ability to translate three-dimentional forms with two-dimensional drawings. In addition to interacting with local artists and the Parthenon curator, students receive an in-depth studio session with Athena sculptor Alan LeQuire and communication via Skype with Robert Bodem, director of the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. The experience concludes with an exhibition of selected student pieces in the Parthenon's gallery lobby exhibit space. Plaza Artist Materials and Picture Framing generously donates student supplies for the project.
